Everybody likes a good book, but books that inspire and teach are some of my favorites. From self-help to fiction, some books just nail it when it comes to self-awareness and personal growth. Check out my top picks.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
A work of fiction, The Alchemist is a masterpiece that takes you on adventure of one man as he follows signs (referred to as omens in the book) to guide his life journey. It’s an easy and inspiring read as it prompts a re-awakening of our natural ability to tune into Universal energy and listen to what it’s trying to tell us.
The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts by Dr. Gary Chapman
This is a great read for both singles and people in relationships. Dr. Gary Chapman teaches that we each have a dominant love language, and if people are not speaking our language, the experience can feel just like people speaking a foreign language to us. Once you understand your primary love language (and your partner’s, children’s, other family members, etc.), you open the doors for more fulfilling and healthy relationships. I first read this after the ending of a near 4-year relationship. I remember thinking, wow, if people put this information into action, I believe ANY relationship can last. The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts is a must-read for all.
It’s Not Your Money by Tosha Silver
What do you mean it’s not my money? After you read It's Not Your Money, you'll totally understand. This is a powerful read that helps clear old and negative beliefs so many of us have surrounding money. Silver’s book takes readers through an eight-week process to heal from those beliefs. If you have an awkward relationship with money (I sure did!), you need to get this book.
The Power is Within You by Louise Hay
Affirmation queen Louise Hay beautifully illustrates how we can heal ourselves in this work of art. When reading this, I highlighted so many different parts of the text for me to look back on. This book will absolutely resonate with everyone who reads it. The Power is Within You will increase your self-awareness to a level you didn't realize you needed.
The Child Whisperer by Carol Tuttle
If you have children, you HAVE to read this book. Forget personality tests and learn about energy profiling. Tuttle is an expert energy profiler and you’ll be able to learn your child’s energy so you can work with them to grow into confident, joyful beings. While reading this, I was in tears after realizing how many times my parenting did not align with my child’s energy. I had no idea. If you’re a parent or work with kids professionally, you have to read The Child Whisperer.
Is This Your Child? By Doris Raap, M.D.
Another one for the parents. Dr. Doris Raap explores allergies from a non-traditional sense that an allergic reaction can manifest itself as unwanted behaviors and feelings, contrary to many allergists who believe rashes or anaphylaxes are the only true allergies. Is This Your Child? also includes a guide for a multi-elimination diet to assist parents in determining which foods may cause difficulties for their child. A great read for all parents, especially children who may be experiencing behavior challenges.
Animal Spirit Guides by Steven D. Farmer, Ph.D.
This might not be a book you read from start to finish, but it’s definitely a good one to have on hand to reference when you need it. Animals are amazing conduits for carrying spiritual messages and Dr. Farmer has included hundreds from A to Z in this guide. It can be used in a couple ways. If you’re looking for a certain message, you can find the keyword and look for the animal associated with what you need to call on them for support. If you have an animal trying to get your attention (think seeing an animal in an odd location, several of the same animal, or the repetitive appearance of animal) you can look up the animal to find the associated message. Animal Spirit Guides is an incredible resource to help tune into nature.
